Mission Statement
The Yale School of Art is dedicated to providing intellectually informed, hands‑on instruction in the visual arts within the context of a liberal arts education. The School fosters an environment where individual creative voices can flourish through rigorous studio practice, mentorship from distinguished faculty, and critical dialogue with peers and visiting artists.
Our Core Values
The School values intellectual inquiry, creative freedom, and innovation, emphasizing the importance of community and dialogue in artistic growth. It promotes technical mastery alongside conceptual exploration and situates artistic practice within broader cultural and interdisciplinary contexts, preparing students to contribute meaningfully to contemporary visual culture.
Our Philosophy
At the heart of the Yale School of Art’s philosophy is the belief that creativity cannot simply be taught but must be nurtured through making, reflection, and exposure to diverse perspectives. The School emphasizes that the studio is the primary site of discovery, where skill, experimentation, and critical thought converge, and it encourages students to see their practice as both a personal pursuit and a contribution to society.
